Kachkanarsky Foundry and Mechanical Plant helps large industrial holdings in Russia overcome difficulties in developing new products and import substitution of old ones.
For example, the plant recently cast a rotor sleeve for a hydroelectric unit installed at the Pavlovskaya hydroelectric power station, the largest station in Bashkortostan. Since 2015, the hydroelectric power station has been undergoing repairs and equipment upgrades. The sleeve, which was manufactured back in the 1950s in the USSR, was very worn out. Metallist cast a new sleeve from 35L steel, weighing about 30 tons.
"There are only two companies in Russia that can produce castings of such weight. Metallist turned out to be the best option for us. We have been cooperating with the plant for a long time and are confident in its products. In terms of logistics, it is more convenient for us ," said Anton Khilov, the customer's representative and CEO of NPO Elektromash LLC.

After machining on a carousel machine, the new bushing was placed in a furnace for several hours to heat and expand the inner diameter. Before that, the shaft itself was brought to the plant. According to the technical specifications, the bushing had to be mounted on the shaft while hot, so that it would fit on it without gaps.
"This is a unique job. This bushing is one of the largest in Russia. It holds the entire rotating part of the 1,200-ton hydroelectric unit. We had to not just make a new part according to the drawing, but make an exact copy of the old part ," the customer said.
The 45-tonne prefabricated part has already been installed at the hydroelectric power station and is currently undergoing testing prior to launch.
